October 30, 2017 : Belated 2nd week Anniversary!

Hey guys! Sorry I didn't post for 5 days, but as I said, I'm not good at keeping journals. 2 days ago was the 2 full week of my blog, so here is the secret message that would me posted then :

Haigey gaiguys! Thaigis aigis thaige saigecaigond waigeaigek baigelaigataiged caigelaigebraigataigiaigon aigand aigif yaigoaigu caigan raigeaigad thaigis, yaigoaigu aigaraige aigawaigesaigomaige!

Yeah, so that's the secret message. A few days ago my brother cooked one of the other recipes out of the 2 recipes that were left from the Blue Apron menu and then I cooked one on Saturday or Friday, I don't know, but I got to make meatballs with ground beef! It was so fun to make the meatballs, but before that, I made a giant meatball! I'm going to post the recipes tomorrow because I don't have the time to type that today, so bye guys!

October 24, 2017 : Consumer Science Awesomeness

Hey guys! Yesterday I had Consumer Science and baked something called apple crisp! Here is a pic of it :

And there's David in the pic again. He baked apple crisp with me yesterday while the rest of my group baked it today. Sorry, but I forgot to get the recipe, so I will give you the first recipe I made in Consumer Science! I created the blog 2 weeks after school started, so I have a few recipes I haven't shown. The recipe is for something called .............

BUBBLE COFFEE CAKE

Yeah, so now here's the recipe :

Oven : 375 degrees

2 Tbsp. Brown sugar
2 Tbsp sugar
1 / 2 tsp. cinnamon
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 pkg. Refrigerator rolls or biscuits (10 in pkg)

1. Preheat oven.
2. Place butter in 8" round or square baking pan and place in oven to melt.
3. Meanwhile, measure cinnamon and both sugars into small Ziploc bag. Close bag and mix well.
4. Open the can of 10 refrigerator rolls and place on a large dinner plate. Using a kitchen shear cut each individual roll (or biscuit) into two even parts. Set aside until needed.
5. When butter is melted, remove pan from oven and place on heatproof surface.
6. Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture oven melted butter; stir mixture.
7. Arrange the 20 "bubble" pieces on top of the mixture in an even pattern.
8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Invert onto serving plate.
9. Pull apart to serve; Enjoy!

Yeah, so that's the recipe. Also, I will not be able to add my short story onto the blog this month because we actually may need to go into November. But that's it, bye guys!

October 21, 2017 : MORE AWESOME COOKING TODAY!

Hey guys! Today I cooked my parents dinner and they cooked my dinner (Actually, my dad did all the cooking).  My parents cooked me, my 9 year old brother, and my 6 year old sister ravioli, which my dad basically just put in the oven and waited for an hour. Well, now let's get to all the good cooking stuff. I will write down the recipe and after each step, I will post a picture of what happened. My parents said it tasted real good and I tasted some of it and it also tasted real good. If you want to make this recipe, you probably should buy the material from Blue Apron because they already have all the ingredients you need measured for you. Also, I figured out Knick Knacks are just small ingredients. This is a picture of what the finishing result is :

Looks yummy, doesn't it? Here are some pictures of all the ingredients, the instruction card, and the Nutrition Facts :

Now here is the recipe :

Fennel - Crusted Pork Chops & Fig Compote
with Sauteed Kale & Farro Salad

Time : 25 - 35 minutes
Servings : 2

We're ushering in fall with a delicious compote - simply fruit stewed with a bit of sugar and liquid until it takes on a jammy consistency. Ours features dried Turkish figs, whose exceptional sweetness (balanced by a bit of vinegar) makes a perfect topping for pork chops. On the side, fresh tarragon lends its distinctive licorice flavor to a farro and kale salad (you may receive green curly, red, or dark green lacinato kale) and complement the pork's ground fennel crust.

MATCH YOUR BLUE APRON WINE
Light & Bright

Serve a bottle with this symbol for a great pairing

Ingredients
2 BONELESS, CENTER - CUT PORK CHOPS
2 / 3 cup SEMI - PEARLED FARRO
1 bunch TARRAGON
1 bunch KALE

KNICK KNACKS
2 Tbsps CREME FRAICHE
1 oz DRIED TURKISH FIGS
1 Tbsp PORK CHOP SPICE BLEND
2 Tbsps SUGAR
1 Tbsp RED WINE VINEGAR

1 Cook the farro :

Heat a medium pot of salted water to boiling on high. Once boiling, add the farro and cook, uncovered, 16 - 18 minutes, or until tender.

Drain thoroughly and return to pot. Set aside in a warm place.

2 Prepare the ingredients :

While the farro cooks, wash and dry the fresh produce.

Finely chop the figs.

Remove and discard the kale stems; roughly chop the leaves.

Pick the tarragon leaves off the stems; discard the stems and roughly chop the leaves.

3 Coat & cook the pork chops :

While the farro continues to cook, place the spice blend on a plate.

Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels; seasoned with sart and pepper on both isdes. Thoroughly coat the seasoned pork chops in the spice blend (tapping off any excess).

In a medium pan (nonstick, if you have one), heat 2 teaspoons of olive oil on medium high until hot.

Add the coated pork chops and cook 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through

Leaving and browned bits (or fond) in the pan, transfer to a plate and let rest for at least 5 minutes.

4 Make the compote :

While the pork chops cook, in a small sausepan, combine the figs, sugar, a big pinch of salt, half the vinegar, and 1 / 4 cup of water. Heat to boiling on high.

Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium high. Cook, stirring occasionally, 6 to 7 minutes, or until the figs have softened and the mixture is slightly thickened. Turn off the heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

5 Cook the kale :

While the pork chops rest, heat the pan of reserved fond on medium - high until hot. (If the pan seems dry, add a drizzle of olive oil.)

Add the kale; season with salt and pepper. Cook stirring occasionally, 1 to 2 minutes, or until slightly wilted.

Add 1 / 4 cup of water; cook, stirring occasionally and scraping up any fond from the bottom of the pan, 1 to 2 minutes, or until the kale has wilted and the water has cooked off. Turn off the heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

6 Finish the salad & plate you dish :

Add the cooked kale, creme fraiche, half the tarragon, and the remaining vinegar to the pot of cooked farro. Drizzle with olive oil and stir to combine; season with salt and pepper to taste.

Divide the finished salad and rested pork chops between 2 dishes. Top the pork chops with the compote. Garnish with as much of the remaining tarragon as you'd like. Enjoy!

All of this has come from Blue Apron, and I take no credit for the recipe. Go to Blue Apron's website to order stuff and make recipes! Actually, now that I think about it, you have to order stuff from Blue Apron to make it, because you don't know how much a bunch really is. The rest of the blog is just going to be pictures, so bye guys!

October 21, 2017 : More cooking stuff!

Hey guys! I decided : I am definitely not going to be able to post everyday, so you won't be seeing new stuff everyday. Also, I found a cookbook that I got when I was 8! The book is called "Kids' fun & healthy Cookbook". Here is a picture of it :

My mom also just received some stuff from a business called Blue Apron, and the box came with 3 recipes and the ingredients needed for the recipes! Each of the recipes have some "Knick Knack" ingredients, which I think means ingredients you don't necessarily need. It also tells you which type of wine goes best with the recipe. I don't drink wine, so the wine is only for if you are an adult. Also, I am going to create a page for each of the recipes that I have right now! So It won't be taking up that much space in my blog anymore! Also, right now it is just noon, so some stuff might happen after this post, and I know for a fact that in the afternoon, I am going to have a couple of chess games against other kids, so I will probably have news about my chess games! Also, I will create a poll on the right on which recipes I should post next on my next blog. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm going to post the recipe on a post and then add it to a page. But for now, bye guys!

October 19, 2017 : Stuff

Hey guys! Sorry for not posting on Monday Tuesday, and Wednesday, but I thought that there just wasn't anything interesting to post. But, today I will give you a picture of what I made on Tuesday :
Sorry, but I don't have the recipe because the teacher didn't have any extra copies, but I will try to get a copy tomorrow! Tomorrow our school has something called the gator walk, so I am going to be wearing all black tomorrow. I will see If I am able to take a picture of our AB. Our teacher in a celebrity, me and a couple of friends are going to be bodyguards, and everyone else is going to be paparazzi! Oh, and the name of the guy who was holding the bowls of stuff is David! So shout out to David! I have nothing else to say, so bye guys!

October 15, 2017 : Recap for Cooking

Hey guys! Today I had to go to a group meeting for something called FLL, basically it's a Lego robotics competition. You can search it up online, so I'm not going to talk about it. Well, today I went to a friends house and made Snickerdoddles with him! I took a taste of it and it wasn't what I expected, I have had cinnamon candy and it had tasted horrible, so the cookies not so sugary taste was surprising! Here is a picture of the Snickerdoddles I brought home :

Also, here's some advice for the cooking part : Remember to flatten the dough when it is on the cookie sheet, or else you will come out with baked balls of dough. That's really it for today, and remember to check out yesterdays blog to try solving the code! Bye guys!

October 14, 2017 : First post about Saturday!

Hey guys! Today I am posting about what happened today ( As usual )! Today is the 7th day of my blog, so I will call this the 1st weekly blog celebration! I think that I will post a secret message every weekly celebration for your fun! Here is this weeks secret message :

eyhay uygays! odaytay isyay ethay irstfay eeklyway elebrationcay! isthay ashay eenbay ittenwray inyay igpay atinlay.

This should be pretty simple to crack, but here's a clue anyway :

🐷

The emoji is the clue. Post your answers in the comment section below. I will see if it is right or wrong and reply on Monday. Remember, write it in the exact same way it should be in English, so period, proper capitalization, ect.

Today I Chinese School were we learn Chinese. I am Chinese, so it makes sense that I am going to Chinese School. It was O.K. but there was nothing interesting, so I'm not going to talk about it. That's basically all for today, bye!

October 14, 2017 : Blog about Friday!

Hey guys again! From the previous post you know about Thursday, now let's talk about Friday! Every Friday and Wednesday I have Gym. In Gym we did exactly the same thing we did on Wednesday. We played three time this time and won none of them, we didn't score at all! Our goalie blocked a bunch of the shots that our opponent team threw at us, so that was good. I had a Spanish, a Math test, and a English test on Thursday and Friday. I got a 20 / 25 on the Spanish test, and I am still pending my Math and English test scores. After school my dad and some of my friends who like math went to this event my dad set up. We each took a test called the AMC 8 and the year was 2010. Here is a link to the test :
https://artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.php?title=2010_AMC_8

I got a 25 out of 25 on the test, so yay! That's all I have to write about Friday, so bye! I will post a blog about today later in the day.

October 14, 2017 : Blog for Thursday

Hi guys! Sorry I didn't post for the last 2 days, but on Thursday I my parents wouldn't let me post because I had to much stuff to do and on Friday, I was just too tired. So here's what happened : On Thursday I had Consumer Science and I got in a fight with a friend. I ended up eating no cookies and getting only one picture. Here is the picture of my group putting what we created last time on the cookie plate :

Sorry about the picture being twisted, but I didn't know what setting I took the picture on. Here is a picture of what a Snickerdoodle should look like after it is cooked :

Here is a copy of the whole recipe for your convenience :

..............................................................................................................................................

1 / 4 teaspoon cream of tartar

So that's the recipe! Our group accidentally added the cinnamon sugar mixture into the dough, and then rolled it in the cinnamon, so we had extra cinnamon sugar! I still don't know what it tastes like, so I will probably cook it at home. So that's it for Thursday! I will post the blog about Friday in about 30 minutes. Bye!

October 11, 2017 : Another Day of School

Hey guys! Sorry I posted this late, but I have something called "Math Circle that goes on till 7 : 30 PM". But I saw something amazing there, a binary clock! Here is a picture of one :

A binary clock represents the time in binary. No light represent 0, and light represents 1. I hope I can get a binary watch!

Well anyway, today was just another day of school, but it was unique in its own way! Today, instead of having Consumer Science, I had Gym and Orchestra.

In Gym each team got to be part of a Speedball game twice. Speedball is basically soccer plus basketball. You cannot pick up the ball if it is on the ground and you can only change it back to basketball if you hit it in the air and catch it. My team didn't score a point in both teams, but in the first game we only let them score on us 3 times and in the second, once.

In Orchestra we are playing the songs "Carol of the Bells", "Music from Frozen", and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies". We have other songs we play but we only practiced these 3 songs today. I've basically master "Carol of the Bells", halfway master "Music from Frozen", and 1 / 3 mastered "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies". We already had 45 minutes of practice for a period, and then added 45 extra minute for the whole Orchestra combined! I had English class, and for those of you who know Kahoot, I came in first! All the girls were so frustrated because they were the only ones on the leader board till I started to catch up. For Science class, my group continued to work on our presentation due on Monday. Then 4th period, Social Studies, we just worked on what she assigned to us, which was a worksheet, since she was absent. Math was awesome since I am good at math. Did you know I came in 6th place for my county for Mathcounts? Mathcounts is a competitive math competition for middle school kids like me. Today I met Sam Florin, the 1st place champion for Mathcounts in my state! I shook hands with him too! Also, I met him at math circle, so yeah, that was a good thing. That's it for today, bye!

P.S. I will post the second part of the recipe for Snickerdoodles tomorrow. I couldn't find the guy that was in the pictures yesterday, so no name yet.

October 10, 2017 : More cooking & new stuff!

Hey guys! Its Lightning again. If your wondering why I'm calling myself LightningRocketSoul and it says I'm LightningGamer, it is because LightningGamer was my old name for my account because I was trying to create a YouTube channel. If any of you guys can tell me a way to change it, please tell me! Also, I have OCD, that stands for obsessive compulsive disorder, so it is really annoying when in a comment section a sentence is not correctly punctuated or capitalized, I might even delete the comment if it gets on my nerves to much.

Well, now to the good stuff. In Consumer Science, which is my second period class, we were baking Snickerdoodles. Snickerdoodles are cookies made of oil, sugar, flour, and cinnamon. What I think is awesome about Snickerdoodles is that it is made out of cream of tartar, which is a powder that is left behind when making wine, and it isn't alcoholic! My friends started to joke around after the teacher said that because they said they both went drunk after drinking root beer (Is that possible?). Our teacher told us that we wouldn't be able to finish it in one day, so we only worked on the first 3 steps, which are below :

Bake at 375 degrees

Ingredients
3 / 4 cup sugar
1 / 2 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1 / 2 teaspoon vanilla
3 / 2 cups all-purpose flour
1 / 4 teaspoon salt
1 / 4 teaspoon baking soda
1 / 4 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Equipment

measuring cups and spoons
large mixing bowl
wooden spoon
small mixing bowl
spoon
cookie sheets
ruler
hot pads
pancake turner
cooling rack

Directions

1. In large mixing bowl cream the 3 / 4 cup sugar and the butter or margarine with a wooden spoon. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
2. In small bowl stir together flour, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Stir into butter mixture with wooden spoon till well mixed.
3. In another small bowl combine the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon.
..............................................................................................................................................

I did not post all 5 steps yet because I want you guys to see the result before trying it out for yourself. I will have my next consumer science class in 2 days, so if you want the rest of the recipe check out this blog in 2 days! After the first step my group came out with this :

After going half way through the second step my group had this :

And then when we mixed them together we had this :

Sorry if the angle of photography is bad, but I had to take it with my school Chromebook, and it only had a camera on the computer screen side. You can see the guy that is holding the two bowls before they were mixed, I haven't asked weather or not I can give his real name yet, since giving the information could be harmful to him, so I might be able to post his name tomorrow.

For English class today we had to brainstorm ideas of what to write about in our monthly realistic fiction short stories. I thought up a lot of idea and then narrowed it down to nuclear war (Choice A) or a guy going through the experience of being hacked and losing everything he has (Choice B). I have created a vote screen on the side of this article to Choose A or B. Thanks for reading guys!

October 9, 2017 : The First Post About School!

Hi guys!
It's Lightning here again, and I'm going to talk about school today! All my classes had nothing interesting but every week I will post 1 - 3 recipes that I made in my consumer science class! Today I baked "Parmesan Pull Apart Biscuits". Here is the recipe :

Ingredients :
1 / 4 cup unsalted butter
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
3 / 2 teaspoon dry onion flakes
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
1 package refrigerated biscuits

Directions :

Wash you hands

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees
2. Put butter in an 8 - inch cake pan or in round Bundt pan and put in the oven to melt, watch the butter so that it does not burn. Using oven mitts, take pan out of the oven when the butter is melted
3. When butter is melted, sprinkle with parsley and onion flakes
4. Cut each biscuit in 4 equal pieces
5. Place biscuit pieces on top of melted butter, parsley, and onions
6. Sprinkle top of biscuits with grated Parmesan cheese
7. Bake at 425 degrees for 12 -15 minutes use oven mitts to remove the pan from oven
8. Invert the rolls onto a plate
and serve

So that's the recipe. When we finished we came out with this :

If your wondering what the kitchen that we cooked it in looked like, here is a picture :

Yeah, so that's it! When I was doing it I accidentally added a lot of cheese, but it still tasted good, so in my opinion, you can add as much cheese as you want!

If you want me to post recipes to other things I cooked before the blog, you can ask for it in the comment section below. Thanks for reading!

P.S. I have OCD, so if you are going to comment can you please comment in full sentences?
